Ammonites (Bible)

From Conservapedia

The Ammonites (Hebrew עַמּוֹן) were people living east of the Jordan River who according to Genesis were descended from Abraham's nephew Lot (Gen 19:38). The main kingdom was east of Gilead. While the ancient Hebrews regarded the Ammonites as closely related, the two groups were frequently at war and conflict with the Ammonites was one reason the Hebrews decided to form a unified kingship under Saul (See 1 Samuel 11 and 12).

It is not clear what happened to the Ammonites although comments by Justin Martyr indicate that some group identified as Ammonites existed until as late as the first century A.D.
