Texas Cannabis

Texas cannabis has been lawful for medical marijuana since 2015, requiring a medical marijuana card for any possession, but cannabis remains completely unlawful for recreational use as of 2022.

Growing cannabis in Texas is considered to be unlawful possession.

In June 2022, the Texas Republican Party platform opposed the legalization of cannabis, but urged Congress to reclassify it as merely a Schedule 2 rather than a Schedule 1 drug. The Texas GOP also supports deregulation of hemp as an agricultural product.

Illegal cannabis farms are discovered and raided each year in Texas, some having substantial sizes such as 40,000 or so plants. The illegal cannabis farms contribute to a smog problem there. See cannabis and smog.
