Final Fantasy V (ESRB ratings: E/T) is the fifth game of the Final Fantasy series, released in Japan for the Super Nintendo. The game has been re-released for PlayStation and for Game Boy Advance.
The game's main characters are the Warriors of light. Their duty is to save the world. Each one has been bestowed with a certain virtue.:
- Bartz: The game's main character. In the game's official art he wears make-up. His virtue is passion
- Reina or Lenna (depending on game's version): She's the princess of the kingdom of Tycoon. Her virtue is devotion.
- Faris: A pirate woman disguised as a man. She's also Reina's sister who was separated from her when young, but initially neither of them knows it. Initially she disguises herself as a man. She did this in order to be respected by fellow pirates on the ship where she was raised. Her virtue is courage.
- Galuf: An old man and Krile's grandfather. He's the king of Val, a kingdom in another planet. He was a member of the previous warriors of light who fought an evil sorcerer in Val. When the party first meets him he has amnesia but he eventually recovers. His virtue is hope.
- Krile: A rebellious, upbeat, bubbly and cheerful young girl. She constantly disobeys her grandfather's orders and sometimes even hits him. She can talk telepathically with animals. After Galuf dies she takes his place in the party.
Early in the game Bartz, Reina, Galuf and Faris meet and realize that they must save the planet which is being threatened by Exdeath, a knight-like entity that was originally a tree tainted by demon ensealment, taking advantage of the "crystals", which control the four elements (earth, fire, wind and water) in an attempt at unleashing an arcane spell known as the void which destroys all of existence. The crystals eventually break because their energy has been drained by human technology. After each crystal breaks, its element either becomes polluted or weakened.
