Herman Cain (December 13, 1945 - July 30, 2020) was a 2012 Republican candidate for President of the United States.[1] He died on July 30, 2020, from complications related to COVID-19.[2]


Biography[edit]

Cain had over 40 years of experience in the private sector. He served in a number of roles including as an analyst for Coca-Cola, an executive at Pillsbury, a regional vice president with Burger King and CEO of Godfather’s Pizza. He also served as president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association.[1]

Cain ran for President of the United States in 2012. He announced his candidacy on May 21, 2011 at a rally in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park.[3] Following accusations of infidelity and sexual harassment, Cain suspended his presidential campaign in December 2011.[4] After endorsing “the people" in January 2012, he then endorsed Newt Gingrich, and after Gingrich withdrew, Cain endorsed Mitt Romney in May.[5]

Cain was survived by his wife, Gloria, their two children, and their grandchildren.[6] He was an associate minister at Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta.[1]
