Acute

Acute means "small". In geometry it can be used to refer to

• angles
• triangles

The opposite of acute is obtuse.

In medical terminology, it refers to something (usually an ailment) being localized and/or temporary. (A torn ligament in the knee would cause acute knee pain, while arthritis in the knee will probably cause chronic knee pain.)
