Bread Of Life

From Conservapedia

Bread of life is the description used by Jesus to explain who he is, as in John 6:48:[1]

I am that bread of life.

The phrase is obviously figurative, and the English phrase "that bread" is perhaps an imprecise rendering of the original meaning. Other possibilities in modern English to capture the figurative meaning would be "sustenance" or "nourishment".

A better translation today might be "essence of life."

The Greek word is ἄρτος, and is used 97 times in the New Testament, including in the Temptations of Christ and the Our Father. The word literally means either bread, a loaf, or food.
