Founded in 1863 as the first land grant college under the Morrill Act that President Lincoln signed into law in 1862. Notable alumni include U.S. Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts, former Arkansas state Representative Richard Barclay, former NBA stars Mitch Ritchmond and Rolando Blackman, and Earl Woods, the father of golfer Tiger Woods.
