Kansas State University (often referred to as K-State) is a university located in Manhattan, Kansas. Founded in 1863 as the first land grant college under the Morrill Act that President Lincoln signed into law in 1862. Notable alumni include U.S. Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts, former Arkansas state Representative Richard Barclay, former NBA stars Mitch Ritchmond and Rolando Blackman, and Earl Woods, the father of golfer Tiger Woods.

Perry Adkisson, an entomologist at Texas A&M University received his Ph.D. from Kansas State. He was the first person to receive all three of the world's major prizes in Agriculture — Alexander von Humboldt Award, the Wolf Prize, and World Food Prize).[2]

The school is associated with the Big 12 Conference.
