Homework Ten Answers - Student Two

From Conservapedia

1: there are really only two main ways to get an answer on any given problem. The first is to rule out all but one answer, and the second is to recognize that one is correct and at least one other is wrong. However on the political cartoon with Lincoln there were a few way to achieve these goals. You could notice that the picture on the right has the confederate flag flying (only one of the answers has a date in which the confederacy was in existence). Or you could recognize the person Lincoln was running against in the appropriate year. Or you could see the captions discus slavery which was not the main issue of Lincoln’s first election.

Superb analysis.

2: the two main reasons United States entered the first world war were the sinking of unarmed American ships by German submarines, and the interception and publication of a message from the German foreign minister to Mexico promising the restoration to them of the southwest if they would invade the U.S.

Correct.

5: Debate: Should government be able to interfere with free enterprise by establishing maximum working hours for men? I don’t think the government should interfere with working hours as not only does it interfere with free enterprise but it could keep someone from making the money they need. If someone wants to work for 20 hours a day it’s not the governments job to stop them.

The Lochner v. New York decision agreed with your view, and many would agree with your view today also.

6: The 16th amendment was ratified in 1913 giving congress the power to tax income “without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration”. The 17th amendment was ratified in 1913 and changed the way senate seat vacancies were filled when the previous senator resigned, died etc. The 18th amendment (ratified in 1919 and repealed in 1933) prohibited the sale, use and import of alcohol as a beverage. The 19th amendment was ratified in 1920 and gave women the right to vote.

Correct.

7: The cartoon depicts Theodore Roosevelt as an angel forcing Russia and Japan to come to an agreement and end the Russo-Japan war. As he is depicted as an angel I think it’s safe to say that the cartoonist fully agrees with Roosevelt and is showing support for him.

Right.
