Salongate

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi entering a salon with no face mask on.

Salongate is a term used to describe Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's extreme liberal hypocrisy and exhibition of childish behaviors in early September 2020 when she visited a hair salon in San Francisco that violated coronavirus lockdown orders and doubled down by avoiding personal responsibility. On September 1, 2020, security footage emerged of Pelosi visiting a hair salon without a face mask[1] and in violation of her own city's lockdown orders.[2] This was despite the fact that she had repeatedly lectured others on the importance of mask-wearing, a matter pointed out in a Trump campaign ad.[3] Her action sparked strong criticisms.[4]

After being caught in her action, Rep. Pelosi acted in the manner of an irresponsible and spoiled teenager by blaming the salon owner Erica Kious, accusing the latter of a "setup" and demanding that they apologize to her.[5] The ridiculous claim was thoroughly rebuked by Kious,[6] a single mother of two children, though it didn't stop Pelosi's stylist from acting as an apologist for the House Speaker's actions.[7]

When appearing on Tucker Carlson Tonight at Fox News,[8] Kious reported that she received death threats and had to relocate following Pelosi's action/remarks.[9] A GoFundMe effort has been started by Amy Tarkanian, the wife of Danny Tarkanian, to support her.[10] Kristi Noem, the incumbent movement conservative governor of South Dakota, offered to welcome Kious into her state.[11]

The video of Pelosi entering the salon without a face mask has been played by White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.[12] President Trump also mocked the representative for her actions,[13] and suggested that the salon owner ought to replace Pelosi as Speaker of the House.[14][15]

Many liberals who maintain a habit of shifting responsibility blamed Trump for Pelosi's actions, including Chris "Fredo the Younger" Cuomo.[16] The mayor of San Francisco also attacked Trump and called him a "terrorist".[17]

Kious has raised over $335,000.

Kious announced on September 10, 2020 that she was afraid to head back to San Francisco and would permanently close her shop.[18]
