The Sundance Film Festival is an event held annually (each January) in Park City, Utah. Attendance is estimated at more than 45,000 people from around the world.[1] The Film Festival, first called the U.S. Film Festival, began in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1978, as a way for the founders to attract more filmmakers to Utah. Actor Robert Redford was the festival's first board chairman. The inaugural event focused on retrospectives of classic American films, with a few awards given to new works.[2] A non-profit organization, the Sundance Institute, took over management of the festival in 1985, and in 1991 it was officially renamed the Sundance Film Festival.
