The Minority Whip is a member of the minority political party in a legislature whose task is to ensure that members of the party attend and vote as the party leadership desires. The term "whip" is used in the country's of Australia, Ireland, England, Canada, and the United States. Given the two-party nature of the U.S. system, the minority whip is almost inevitably either a Republican or a Democrat. In the United States Senate the Minority Whip is Trent Lott (R-Mississippi), and the House Minority Whip is Roy Blunt (R-Missouri)
