Walter R. Brooks

Walter R. Brooks (1886-1958) was the author of the Freddy the Pig series of children's books.^[1] He also wrote the short story "Ed takes the Pledge" which became the basis for the television series Mister Ed.^[2]

Life and Works[edit]

Brooks was born in Rome, New York, on January 9, 1886, as the son of a professor and clergyman father and his mother, daughter of the mayor, though they died when he was young and he lived with his older sister.^[3] He studied in homeopathic medicine, married, worked for an advertising agency, worked for the Red Cross, wrote for the New York, remarried, wrote his books, and died on August 17, 1958.^[4]
