Rockstar Games is a publisher of the controversial violent Grand Theft Auto video game series. Rockstar Games was founded in 1998 by Sam Houser, Dan Houser, Terry Donovan, Jamie King and Gary Foreman, all of whom are British video game producers. Rockstar Games is headquartered in New York City, however most of the video game production and development takes place at Rockstar North, based in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. For a while, that division operated under the name "DMA Design" which developed and released Grand Theft Auto 1 in 1997 and Grand Theft Auto 2 in 1999.
