Pelvis

From Conservapedia

The pelvis is the bony part of the body structure that supports the organs of the lower abdomen.

It is shaped like a basin and receives the weight of the upper body which is then distributed on the legs. The pelvis is also the base for many muscle attachments in the body.

In humans there are two large hip bones that form a ring around the central cavity. The fused segments of the spine connect these hip bones at the back of the central cavity. A fibrous band does the connecting in the front.

The pelvis is wider in adult females than it is in males reflecting the child-bearing nature of women.
