Heredity

Heredity is the transferral of characteristics from ancestors to descendants - that is, the reason why offspring tend to resemble their parents. Some traits, such as eye color, are transferable through genetics, but others, such the timbre of one's laugh or one's behavior, may be inherited through other channels.

Almost every human characteristic is in significant measure heritable. But few human behavioral traits are directly inherited, in the manner of height, for example, or eye color. Inherited means "directly determined by genes," with little or no way of preventing or modifying the trait through a change in the environment.^[1]
