Population statistics |
The Canada goose (Branta canadensis) of the family Anatidae, is a medium to large-sized waterfowl native to North America. Introduced feral populations are in Britain and other northern European countries. A separate population breeds in Asia on Kamchatka and in Japan.
The Canada goose is instantly recognizable, having brownish-gray plumage with a black neck and head. It has a white chinstrap-like mark on its head, which is the main factor in recognizing this goose. Its call is the familiar "honk" sound associated with most geese.
It breeds in Alaska and Canada, and migrates south to the United States for the winter.
