This started the War. The war ended when American soldiers forced their way deep into Mexico and forced the Mexicans to sign the the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo.

Good. You might mention why American troops went there (Polk wanted more land, and Americans wanted Manifest Destiny), and the time period. See model answers.

4. The most important person of the 1840-1860 period was Abraham Lincoln because he opposed slavery and helped our country.

Lincoln did not have a significant influence in that time period. (Minus 2).

5. bleeding Kansas was when Kansas people fought with each other over the issue of slavery.

6. The cartoon shows Columbia spanking Steven Douglas for having something to do with the Nebraska bill with Uncle Sam looking on. The artist probably opposed the Nebraska bill.

Superb, but note that Douglas had more than "something to do" with the Bill. He pushed it through the Senate.

7. It was not possible to avoid the civil war because of the conflicts already happening because of the slavery issue. They could not just lay off the issue
