Born in 1955 in Auvers-sur-Oise (France), Jean-Pierre Martinez is a French playwright, screenwriter, and semiotician of Spanish origin[1][2]. He was first a drummer for several rock bands. In the 1980s, he participated in the work of the Paris Semiotics School (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), directed by Algirdas Julien Greimas, as a facilitator, with Jean-Marie Floch, of the Advertising Semiotics Workshop. He also worked for over twenty years as a semiotics consultant for major consulting firms, including Ipsos[3] and published several articles on this topic[4][5]
Then, he wrote scripts for various French television series (Avocats et Associés, Sur le fil...)[6]. He taught at the European Conservatory of Audiovisual Writing[7] in Paris. At the same time, he started writing for the theatre. He has written 107 plays[8], translated into many languages[9] and performed worldwide[10]. All his plays are published by La Comédiathèque Editions[11] but they are also available for download on his website[12].
His plays are the subject of studies in the theater departments of several universities[13][14].
