Lanai

Lanai, with a total area of only 141 square miles, is the smallest of the 8 main Hawaiian islands. The island has a length of 18 miles and a width of 13 miles. The population is approximately 2,800, most residents live in Lanai City.

The entire island of Lanai was purchased in 1922 by James Dole, at a cost of $1.1 million. Today most of the island is still owned by the Dole company ^[1] and much of the land is dedicated to commercial pineapple farming.^[2] The tourism industry is also active on the island, which has many beautiful beaches.
