Maxim Gorky

Alexei Maximovich Peshkov (Russian:Алексе́й Макси́мович Пешко́в or Пе́шков) (28 March 1868 - 18 June 1936) was a Russian writer and the founder of Socialist realism (a propaganda tool to educate socialist values) during the Soviet period, he also strongly opposed the Tsarist regime during the Russian Civil War.

Between 1906 and 1913 he lived in the Italian town Capri but he went back to Russia after an invitation of dictator Joseph Stalin.

His city of birth, Nizhny Novgorod was named to Gorky between 1932 and 1990.
