Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll. Among others, Elvis Presley was one of its originators.
Rockabilly is a portmanteau of the words "rock" (from rock and roll), and "hillbilly" (a reference to country music, which was called hillbilly music in the 1940s and 50s). Boogie woogie and rhythm and blues were also important influences. Its primary origin and popularity was in the Southern United States.
The popularity of rockabilly waned in the 1960s, but experienced a major revival in the 1970s, which continues even today.
