Samuel Johnson was a reverend, a philosopher, and the father of William Samuel Johnson who was a signer of the Constitution.

Early life[edit]

Samuel Johnson was born October 14, in Guilford Connecticut. His great grandfather Robert was one of the early settlers of New Haven, having emigrated from Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire about 1637.[1]

Influence[edit]

Johnson was profoundly influenced by the work of John Locke.[2][3][4]
