Alexandre Dumas

Alexandre Dumas (1802 - 1870) was a French author of romances and adventures, many of which remain highly popular in the modern era either in their original form or through popular adaptations. His most notable works are the Musketeers series (including The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask) and The Count of Monte Cristo.

Dumas had a son, also named Alexandre Dumas, who also was an writer, in fact the author of La Dame aux Camelias, which is the base text for the opera La Traviata. To avoid confusion, the elder Dumas is often referred to as Dumas pere, and the younger as Dumas fils.
