Triple Crown

The Triple Crown refers to specific trios of achievements in various sports.

Baseball[edit]

In baseball, the Triple Crown includes leading the league in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in. The last player to achieve this was Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Other well-known winners include Ty Cobb (1909), Lou Gehrig (1934), and Ted Williams (1942, 1947)

The Pitching Triple Crown includes leading the league in wins, strikeouts, and earned run average. This was last achieved by San Diego's Jake Peavy in 2007.

Horse Racing[edit]

In horse racing, the Triple Crown includes winning the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. This was last achieved by Affirmed in 1978. Other well-known Triple Crown winners include Citation (1948), Seattle Slew (1977), Secretariat (1973), and War Admiral (1937).
