Carchemish

Carchemish, an ancient city now located on the border between Syria and Turkey, and it's ruins are located on the banks of the Euphrates and near Jerablus in southeastern Turkey.

Carchemish was an important city of the ancient Hittite Empire and eventually became the capital of the Assyrian Empire, until the decisive Battle of Carchemish was held at it.
