The Tribe of Benjamin was the descendants of Jacob through the second son of his wife Rachel. They made up part of the Kingdom of Judah after the split with northern Israel after the death of Solomon.
Benjamin was a small tribe known for its left-handed slingers in battle. As recorded in the Book of Judges in the Bible, they were almost destroyed by the other tribes in battle due to the horrible crimes of some of their kinsmen and their defiance in seeing them brought to justice. But once the war was over, a remnant remained and the other tribes took pity upon them and allowed them to take wives so they could continue.
