Nomination By Endorsement

Nomination by endorsement is the approach which was taken by Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush to try to win the Democratic and Republican nominations for President. Both appeared to lack the support of the grassroots, and had relatively little popular support.

At least until January 15, 2016, Jeb Bush led the endorsement race for the Republican Presidential nomination by a substantial margin. The six leaders in the endorsement race were:^[1]

• Jeb Bush (51 points)
• Marco Rubio (43 points)
• Chris Christie (26 points)
• Mike Huckabee (26 points)
• John Kasich (20 points)
• Ted Cruz (16 points)

Jeb Bush expected to win the nomination by gaining endorsements from other candidates (Christie, Walker, Rubio, Kasich, Graham, etc.), prior Republican nominees for president (Mitt Romney and John McCain), and Republican governors in key states (South Carolina, Texas and Florida). On Veterans Day 2015, prior GOP nominee Bob Dole endorsed Jeb Bush. On December 20, 2015, Bush reportedly won a key endorsement for the New Hampshire primary, by Beverly Bruce, whose endorsement of Mitt Romney in 2012 helped him win that primary by a wide margin.^[2] On January 15, 2016, Bush received the endorsement by Lindsey Graham.

Hillary Clinton obtained the endorsement by the most powerful liberal interest group, the NEA.
