Carbon nanotubes are long, thin tubes made up of carbon atoms. Because of their tube shape, they have many applications in nanotechnology, optics, electronics, and materials science. They are extraordinarily strong and conductors of heat; however, they are potentially toxic, having a structure similar to that of asbestos fibers.
