Recall reports

An effort in Bloomfield, New Jersey, to recall City Councilor Elias Chalet from his position was launched in February 2016. Kathleen DeMarino filed a notice of intention to recall with the Bloomfield Municipal Clerk on February 3, 2016.[1] The recall did not go to a vote.

Recall supporters[edit]

Chalet was targeted for recall after his indictment on charges of receiving $15,000 from a business owner in exchange for securing commercial real estate. The notice of intention to recall argued that Chalet's indictment diminished his ability to represent residents of his ward. DeMarino argued that the recall became necessary when the remainder of the council and the mayor did not seek Chalet's resignation. Chalet pleaded guilty to second-degree bribery in May 2017.[1][2]

Path to the ballot[edit]

Recall supporters would have needed to submit signatures totaling 25 percent of the city's registered voters as of the 2015 general election to the city clerk.[1]
