John Abbott

Sir John Joseph Caldwell Abbott (born March 12, 1821, in St. Andrews, Lower Canada, died October 30, 1893, in Montreal) was a lawyer, statesman, and the third prime minister of Canada, from 1891 to 1892.

After being educated at McGill University, Abbot, in 1847, became a lawyer and in 1862 was made queen's council. He served as dean of the McGill faculty of law from 1855 to 1880. He was elected to the Candian Legislative Assembly in 1857. Abbott was made PM upon the unexpected death of Sir John A. Macdonald in June, 1891. He resigned the following year due to health problems.^[1]
