The cedar is a coniferous tree, of the family pinacaea, native to the Mediterranean littoral and the Himalaya mountains. The cedar tree is the national emblem of Lebanon, and an image is on the Lebanese flag.

Cedars in the Bible[edit]

The cedar is mentioned frequently in the Bible. An example is:

Numbers 24.5-6: "How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabenacles, O Israel! As the valleys they are spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters."
