Greyhound Lines is a company that offers long-distance bus rides. As opposed to local transit systems that offer bus rides within a city or county border, Greyhound offers travel from city to city, and they have stops in many cities in towns in North America, sometimes partnering with other bus systems. The company’s slogan is Go Greyhound and Leave the Driving to Us!
Greyhound Lines was founded in 1914, in Hibbing, Minnesota. It was founded by Carl Wickman and is currently headquartered in Dallas, Texas. [1]
Greyhound offers a less expensive, yet less luxurious travel option than traveling by plane or train. As such, Greyhound buses are not equipped with many of the standard amenities that other travel methods have. While most modern Greyhound buses have a single bathroom stall, WiFi, and reclining seats, other standard amenities are not typically offered.
Greyhound has garnered some criticism from those concerned about security as it has not had the same degree of increased security as plane travel after the September 11, 2001 attacks. However, some stations (such as the one in El Paso, Texas) do have metal detectors and other security methods that are reminiscent of the TSA. Greyhound has also been cooperating with ICE agents to find and detain illegal immigrants riding its buses.
