Liberalism-Ism

"Liberalism-ism" is a term coined by British conservative politician Douglas Carswell to describe the belief that anything labelled "liberal,"^[1] or "progressive," or "social" must be inherently good, and anything labelled "conservative," or "traditional," or "fiscally conservative" must be inherently bad. He argues that this notion of the political spectrum, a belief that "progress" is gained only by enacting stricter or greater legislation in order to achieve an idealist goal, has reached such a level that it may be itself termed an ideology; "the irrational belief in the ideology of liberalism", says Carswell in "The Left was Never Right", "has reached the level of an ideology in its own right; "liberalism-ism."^[2]
