Tannaim

Tannaim (Aramaic plural תנאים, singular תנא Tanna, "repeaters", "teachers", one who studies or teaches) were the Jewish Rabbinic Sages of the period from Hillel to Judah ha-Nasi, from approximately 30 B.C. to A.D. 220. They were both scholars and teachers who educated Jews in the synagogues and in the academies. Their opinions and rulings were recorded, compiled and redacted finally in the Mishnah around A.D. 200. They flourished for 210 years from A.D. 10–220. The Mishna, is accorded canonical status in Judaism and forms the basis for all subsequent rabbinic discussions.
