1. What was the "Revolution of 1800"?

The Revolution of 1800 was when Jefferson, from the Democrat-Republican Party won against Adams from the Federalist Party in the presidential election of 1800. The election went very well and peace stayed through switching the presidential parties. This was the first time in history that elections proved to be a peaceful form of changing power.

Correct.

2. If you were the president, would you have approved the Louisiana Purchase? Explain.

Yes. I would have approved the Louisiana Purchase. I would not have wanted to have the powerful French government right across the border. On top of that, having more land would eventually give the United States more power.

Excellent.

3. Identify a cause of the War of 1812.

Many things lead up to the War of 1812. One particularly significant event was when the British invaded Washington D.C. and burned down the White House. After many petty embarrassments to the newly founded nation, this was the last straw.

Invasion was 2 years after the war started, so could not have caused it. Your point about embarrassments is a good one. (Minus 1).

4. Describe what you like most about the Monroe Administration.

I truly admire how James Monroe brought the United States together. Only one party existed while he was president. This was probably the most peaceful eight years that America ever experienced.

Correct.

5. Explain what is meant by "Jacksonian Democracy."

The Jacksonian Democracy was when Andrew Jackson won the presidential election of 1828 by drawing in the votes of the middle and lower class. He was the first President who was born in a log cabin and advertised how he could relate to the common man. Sarah Palin is now doing this in the 2008 Presidential elections by showing how she can relate to the general public.

Excellent connection to today's election. Will use in model answers.

6. Explain what the Marshall Court is known for.

Marshall Court is known for expanding governmental power at a state level.

Nope: the Court expanded federal (national) power. (Minus 1).

7. Identify the figures in the cartoon, provide an approximate date, and describe the likely viewpoint of the cartoonist:

The cartoon was engraved by William Charles in New York around 1813. It refers to the English-Russian War of 1812. Charles depicts John Bull (Britain), Columbia (the United States) and a bruin (the bear traditionally representing Russia). William Charles shows that he believes that the United States does not need Britain or Russia to succeed. In fact, Britain has stayed past her welcome. Now the only thing that Britain has in the United States is her ‘horns’ which need to be withdrawn.

Superb analysis of cartoonist's intent. Will use in model answers.
Excellent answers! Score: 68/70.--Aschlafly 08:27, 11 October 2008 (EDT)
