The Ouachita Mountains of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma are one of two mountain ranges between the Rocky Mountains and Appalachian Mountains in North America. The Ouachitas and the Ozark Mountains (Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Illinois) comprise the Interior Highlands.
The Ouachita's ridges are generally aligned east to west, unlike the Rocky Mountains or Appalachian Mountains, where ridges usually run north to south.[1]
