Auburn Measure S was on the ballot as a referral in Auburn on November 3, 2020. It was defeated.

A “yes” vote supported authorizing an additional sales tax of 1% for 7 years generating an estimated $2.56 million per year for general services including law enforcement, fire services, and code enforcement services, thereby increasing the total sales tax rate in Auburn from 7.25% to 8.25%.

A “no” vote opposed authorizing an additional sales tax of 1% for 7 years generating an estimated $2.56 million per year for general services including law enforcement, fire services, and code enforcement services, thereby leaving the existing total sales tax rate in Auburn at 7.25%.


A simple majority was required for the approval of Measure S.

Ballot title

The ballot title for Measure S was as follows:

Shall the measure to increase funding for general fund purposes in the City of Auburn such as increased fire, police, and code enforcement services, with all funds staying local and all expenditures subject to an annual audit and oversight by a Citizens’ Oversight Committee, levying a 1 percent sales tax and raising approximately $2,560,000 annually, which will automatically expire in seven years unless extended by voters, be adopted?
