Robert Edward Wells (born October 1956) is a Yorkshire-born artist known for his cityscapes, rural landscapes and figurative paintings. His work is centred on the more unusual aspects of daily life "encouraging the viewer to create their own narrative interpretations of his often ambiguous and sometimes conflicting imagery."[1]
Wells was born in Morley, Leeds. He attended Batley School of Art and graduated with an MA in the Illustration and Rendering of Architectural Spaces from the University of East London.[2] He also worked for several years as an Architectural Illustrator.[3]
Wells became a full-time artist in 2002 when he was asked to include five works in an exhibition at the New Grafton Gallery in Barnes. This was followed by his first solo show there in 2003.[4] He became a fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers [FCSD][5] in 1989 [lapsed]. He is a member of the RBA [Royal Federation of British Artists][6] and the NEAC [New English Art Club].[7]. In recent years, his work has seen a shift from architecture to include more figurative elements.
He married his Italian wife Maria in 2000 and they have two children Luca and Chiara. They moved from London in 2002 to the South Coast where he has two studios.
