Jacoby Ellsbury

Jacoby Ellsbury, born 1983, is a Major League Baseball outfielder who currently plays for the Boston Red Sox. He is known for his great speed that he uses to run down balls in the outfield and on the basepaths. The speed even enabled him to outrun a deer in his younger days.^[1] He is a Christian.^[2]

Early Years[edit]

Ellsbury was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays but opted to play collegiate baseball at Oregon State University instead. He had three solid years there, including being named a first team All-American his final year, drawing comparisons to Johnny Damon. He was drafted by the Red Sox with the twenty-third overall pick. Ellsbury reached Boston in his third professional season. He had an outstanding debut with a batting average above .350 over 33 regular season games. After taking over the center field spot from a slumping Coco Crisp, Ellsbury played a key role in the team's second World Series title in four years.
