From Conservapedia Operation Moses was a secret operation in 1984 that brought Ethiopian Jews—known locally as the Falasha—to Israel during the Ethiopian famine
It started on November 18, 1984, and ended six weeks later on January 5, 1985. A total of 8,000 Jews were transported by air to Israel via Sudan. When news of the operation broke, Arab governments pressured the Sudanese government into not allowing the Jews to use Sudan as a way to get to Israel. Around 1,000 Jews were left behind in Sudan, until the US backed Operation Joshua.
