Gdynia

Gdynia is a port city in northern Poland on the Baltic Sea with a population of 247,329 (2016). The city is part of the Trójmiasto (“Three-City”) urban area, with Gdańsk and Sopot. Gdynia is the site of one of Europe’s most modern shipyards wich contains a naval museum and several maritime schools. It was created in the years following the First World War to give Poland its own sea port and reduce its dependence on the facilities of the Free City of Gdańsk, nominally independent but dominated politically by Germans at the time.

Gdynia is the main passenger port for the three cities. It is a manufacturing centre and the home port of the Polish navy. Its chief exports are lumber, coal, and sugar, while iron ore and food products are the main imports.^[1]
