Super Smash Bros. Melee (ESRB: T) is a popular fighting game for the Nintendo GameCube, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. It is the second installment of the Super Smash Bros. series of video games, following after the titular Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64. Super Smash Bros. Melee was first released in Japan and then North America in 2001. It was then released in Europe and Australia in 2002 as a launch title. Like its predecessor, Super Smash Bros. Melee is a crossover game featuring protagonists (and a few antagonists, unlike the first Super Smash Bros. game) from various Nintendo franchises, such as Mario and The Legend of Zelda, battling on areas known as "stages."

Melee had little offensive content despite having a T rating. He recommended it to Nintendo fans and as a more family-friendly alternative to Mortal Kombat. However, Cook did mention that several fighters use magical or psychic moves, but that it is otherwise not problematic.
