Bulb

From Conservapedia

A bulb is an underground structure of some plants, such as the onion and the tulip. The bulb has layers or scales, which are actually modified leaves, for storing nutrients during the plant's dormancy. The layers or scales are attached at the base to a basal plate, which is a modified stem, from which the roots grow when the plant grows.[1]
