Struck Down

From Conservapedia

Struck down means to be chastised or denied an opportunity, especially a law or appointment.[1] For example, "The Congressman wanted to make smoking illegal, but his idea was struck down".

It can also mean to be suddenly afflicted by something: one can be struck down by a disease, or a grave misfortune.
