Murtaza Bhutto

Murtaza Bhutto born Mir Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto (18 September 1954 – 20 September 1996), was a son of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, and a Pakistani politician.[1][2][3][4][1][2] He organised al-Zulfiqar after his father was deposed and hanged in 1979 by the military regime of General Zia-ul-Haq. He went exile and was sentenced to death in his absentia by a military tribunal.

In 1993, he returned to Pakistan and was arrested for terrorism on his sister's order, then-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Released on bail, he successfully contested elections to the Sindh Provincial Assembly, becoming a blunt critic of Benazir and her husband Asif Ali Zardari. On 20 September 1996, he was shot dead along with six others in a police encounter near his home in Karachi.[5][6]
