Southern Baptists Of Texas Convention

From Conservapedia

The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC) is a state convention aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention. It is headquartered in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Grapevine, Texas.

During the "Conservative Resurgence" within the SBC, while the national convention was adopting a more conservative theology, the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT, the existing state convention) was generally resisting the national movement and seeking to more closely align with the moderate Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Unable to convince the BGCT to follow the national convention's trend, conservative leaders and churches elected to form a separate state convention, which began operating in 1998.

SBTC adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 edition; churches who wish to affiliate with the SBTC must also adhere to the BF&M 2000. Churches may align solely with SBTC or "dually" align with SBTC and another group (not necessarily BGCT).

SBTC does not prohibit churches from forming local associations not aligned with BGCT, though several have done so.

Notably, the SBTC bylaws prohibit it from incurring debt (though affiliated churches are not prohibited from doing so).

SBTC does not own or operate any higher educational facilities or other ministries, but has affiliations with the following:
