The Atlanta Falcons are a National Football League (NFL) team based in Atlanta, Georgia. They are members of the National Football Conference (NFC) South Division.

History and League Success[edit]

The Falcons entered the league as an expansion team in 1966. Both the NFL and the AFL were heavily interested in placing a team in Atlanta (both leagues had sponsored preseason games in the city), ultimately the NFL forced Atlanta (the city) to decide on a league; it chose the NFL.

The Falcons have generally been mediocre in their history; they have only made two Super Bowl appearances (1999 and 2017; the 2017 appearance was notable for the team's total collapse after holding a 28-3 lead late in the third quarter against the New England Patriots, ultimately losing 28-34 in the only overtime game in Super Bowl history).
