The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), is a Field Operating Agency (FOA) of the United States Air Force that provides provides professional investigative service to commanders of all Air Force activities. Its mission is to identify, exploit and neutralize criminal, terrorist and intelligence threats to the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense and U.S. Government.

Its special agents investigate a wide variety of serious offenses - espionage, terrorism, crimes against property, violence against people, larceny, computer hacking, acquisition fraud, drug use and distribution, financial misdeeds, military desertion, corruption of the contracting process, and any other illegal activity that undermines the mission of the U.S. Air Force or the Department of Defense.

AFOSI has been the Air Force's major investigative service since August 1, 1948. It reports to the Inspector General, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force. The agency is headquartered at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, but has units in 221 places globally—both on Air Force bases and in strategically important locations around the globe.
