IMDb profile |
Casino Royale (2006) is the twenty-first film in the James Bond film series and the first film to star Daniel Craig as fictional British secret agent James Bond. It is a loose adaptation of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, and is the first Bond film to be adapted from a Fleming story since 1987's The Living Daylights. It is notable for being the first film to restart the series' timeline, beginning at the start of James Bond's career as a '00' agent. It is also the first film in the series not to include the character of Miss Moneypenny, and the first film not to include the character of Q since 1973's Live and Let Die. In addition, it is the first film in the series to include the character of Felix Lieter since Licence to Kill. It is also the first Bond film to be co-distributed by Columbia Pictures, following Columbia parent Sony's purchase of MGM in the early 2000s. The storyline of the film was directly continued in the following film, Quantum of Solace. Casino Royale was a critical and box office success, grossing $594 millon worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the James Bond series to date.
