Pituitary Gland

The pituitary gland located at the base of the brain in humans and many animals and fish, and is part of the human body's endocrine system. The pituitary is sometimes referred to as the "master gland" because it secretes hormones that act directly on organs as well as influencing the secretions of other glands. The pituitary is controlled by the hypothalamus.

Pituitary Functions[edit]

The pituitary gland helps to control a number of physiological functions, including growth, blood pressure, reproductive organ functions, thyroid activity, metabolism, and water regulation.
